This is, finally, the novel I knew Simon Beckett was capable of writing. The first two David Hunter novels were full of potential but for various reasons they never quite lived up to it. This time though Beckett really nails it. Forensic anthropologist David Hunter has returned to the infamous "body farm" in Tennessee for some research and an excuse to get away from the country. Suddenly he finds himself joining old friend Tom in a homicide investigation which very soon spirals out of control.

Then it was behind us, and the traffic resumed its usual flow as though nothing had happened.Tom seemed more his old self on the drive back from the cemetery. I read this in a day. It was very hard to put down. Another brilliant novel in the David Hunter forensic anthropologist series. This one was set in the US, at the Body Farm, the FBI's forensic outdoor lab--the place where they use real bodies to investigate all the things that happen to us when we die. Great stuff. This one was even gorier than the first two, a huge body count by the time David is finished, but it's superbly written and has an almost breathtaking climax. I know a lot more about
